Your Service, Your Benefits

Your service to our nation has earned you trusted healthcare benefits. Tennessee Heartland Insurance honors veterans by simplifying Medicare options for you and your family.

Understanding Medicare for Veterans

Veterans can use Medicare alongside VA benefits, but they don’t coordinate. Here’s how they work together:

  1. VA Benefits: Cover care at VA facilities (e.g., VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare in Nashville) but not at non-VA providers unless pre-authorized.
  2. Medicare:  Covers non-VA hospitals and doctors, offering flexibility in rural areas like Franklin or Lebanon. The VA encourages enrolling in Parts A and B at 65 to avoid penalties (e.g., 10% Part B premium increase per year delayed).
  3. TRICARE: For retirees, requires Parts A and B to maintain TRICARE for Life.
  4. CHAMPVA: For spouses/dependents of disabled veterans, requires Parts A and B if Medicare-eligible.
  5. Why Enroll?: Medicare ensures coverage if VA funding changes or you need non-VA care. We’ll guide you to avoid costly penalties.

Earned Benefits in Tennessee

You’ve earned comprehensive benefits through your dedication. In Middle Tennessee, we help veterans and spouses access state programs alongside Medicare for maximum support.

Tennessee-Specific Veteran Benefits

Tennessee offers benefits that complement Medicare:

  • Property Tax Relief:  Disabled veterans or surviving spouses may qualify for tax exemptions on homes (up to $175,000 market value). Contact your local County Trustee.
  • Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes: Skilled nursing in Clarksville, Humboldt, and Murfreesboro. Medicare or VA per diem may cover costs for eligible veterans.
  • Veterans Service Offices: Tennessee Department of Veterans Services (TDVS) offers free help with federal and state benefits. Find offices in Rutherford or Wilson County.
  • Hunting/Fishing Licenses: Lifetime licenses for disabled veterans. These benefits, paired with Medicare, maximize your healthcare and financial security.

Tailored Healthcare for Heroes

Your service deserves tailored healthcare solutions. We guide Middle Tennessee veterans to Medicare plans that fit your unique needs and earned benefits.

Choosing the Right Medicare Plan

Veterans have unique needs, especially in rural Middle Tennessee. We help you choose:

  1. Original Medicare (Parts A & B):  Flexible for non-VA providers (e.g., TriStar Health). Add Part D for prescriptions or Medigap for copays.
  2. Medicare Advantage (Part C): All-in-one plans with extras like dental or vision, ideal for rural areas with telehealth. Some offer $0 premiums but check local networks (e.g., in Cookeville).
  3. Part D:  Covers prescriptions at pharmacies like Walgreens in Dickson. We ensure your medications are included. We verify coverage with local providers to avoid surprises.
